Follow-up messages to copy, from the estimate to the review
Pick what is going on, type your customer's name and the job, and copy a message to send from your own phone or email. It covers a job from the estimate nobody answered to the invoice that is past due, each message short or a little fuller, in English or in Spanish. Every one was written ahead of time, by us: nothing is generated. There is no sign-up, and nothing you type leaves your device.
Write your message
Nothing you type here is sent anywhere. The message is put together on your device.
Every message here was written by us ahead of time. Nothing is generated: this page only puts what you type into the blanks.
As you would say it: Dana, or Mrs. Ramirez.
As it reads after "for": the water heater, the fence repair.
Your message
This is an example with made-up names. Type what the job is and it becomes yours.
Hi Dana, it's Sam. Did the estimate for the water heater come through okay?
75 characters
Paste it into a text or an email on your own phone, and read it over before you send it.
Your own name and your business name are remembered in this browser, on this device only, so you do not type them again. Your customer's name and the job never are. "Clear everything" wipes all of it.
Written ahead of time, not generated
Every message on this page was written by us, in English and in Spanish, with blanks where your names go. Nothing here writes a message when you press a button. The page puts what you typed into the blanks, and leaves out a sentence whose blank you left empty.
So the same boxes always give the same words. Read the message over, change what does not sound like you once you have pasted it, and send it yourself.
Nothing you type leaves your device
This page has no account and nothing to send. The message is put together in your own browser. Your customer's name is not sent to TailGateBid or to anyone else.
Your own name and your business name are remembered in this browser, on this device, so you do not type them every time. Your customer's name, the job, the day and the amount are not kept at all: they are gone when you close the page. "Clear everything" wipes the two that are kept.
"Copy the message" puts it on your own clipboard, like copying any words. Sending it is yours to do, from your own number or your own email.
What it covers
After the estimate goes out
Nothing came back. A second nudge a few days later. The customer who says they are thinking it over. And a gracious close when they went with someone else.
When a day is on the line
A price that holds until a day. A deposit that is due before you hold a day. The confirmation once the job is on the schedule. And the day you have to move.
On the day, and after
You are on your way. The job is done and the invoice is coming. A first, polite reminder about an invoice that is past due. And asking for a review.
What every message keeps to
- One thing asked, in plain words. No pressure, and no hurry that is not real.
- No discount and no deadline of ours. The one message that says a price holds until a day is not written until you type that day, and it should be the day that is on your estimate. If your estimate has no date, pick another message.
- No amount of ours. A deposit or a balance is the figure you type. The reminder about a late invoice asks, and says nothing about fees or interest.
- The review message asks for an honest review, not a good one.
We do not say that any of these messages wins a job, gets an invoice paid or gets a review. Nothing here was measured.
Short, or a little fuller
Each message comes two ways: one to read at a glance, and one that says a little more. Under the message, the page counts its characters as you type.
The count is there because a short message gets read. We state no limit. How a phone company handles a long text message is theirs to say, and we have not read it anywhere worth quoting.
In English or in Spanish
The message can be in either language, whichever one you are reading this page in. Write to each customer in the language they read. The Spanish messages speak to the customer formally.
TailGateBid sends each customer's quote and its email in their own language.
Need one word of the job in the other language? Look it up in the list of trade words.
Who to send them to
A customer who gave you their number or their email for this job. If they ask you to stop, stop.
The rules about when a business may text or email a customer are yours to know. This page does not state them, and we did not look them up. Ask a lawyer, or whoever advises your business.
This page and the guide
What to text after you send an estimate is the guide: when to write, why each message is built the way it is, and how to tell whether your quote was opened. This page is the thing you use on the day.
Nothing to follow up yet? Make the estimate first.
What TailGateBid does not do
- It does not send text messages to your customers. A text comes from your own phone.
- It does not chase a quote for you. No reminder about a quote that has not been answered goes out by itself.
- It does not send the messages on this page. This page hands you the words, and you send them.
What TailGateBid does send
A quote goes to your customer by email, with a link, when you press Send. Its timeline shows when it was sent and when the link was first opened, and you are emailed when your customer approves or declines.
An invoice goes out the same way. One that passes its due date is marked overdue, and your customer is emailed a reminder. If it stays unpaid, more follow, a week apart, and after a few they stop. How an invoice and its reminders work.
A customer with a visit on the schedule is emailed a reminder the day before. Once an invoice is paid in full, they are emailed a request for a review, which you can switch off.
All of that is email. Every plan starts with 30 days free, with no card needed.
TailGateBid emails your quotes and invoices with a link, and shows you when a quote was first opened.
